Melody All Over, Lines in Cycle of Fourths, and Deconstructing Lines
My playing is a mixture of Bebop and Blues. Bebop is the language of Jazz, do you speak Jazz? You can’t learn a few Jazz licks and think you can play Jazz. To learn the jazz language I always recommend starting with Charlie Parker tunes. His melodies are the whole language in and of itself. In this masterclass we are going to use “Donna Lee” as our platform.
Before learning the melody we will learn the chord changes and analyze them (chord degrees, scales). We then will learn to play the melody in different positions (octaves) - that’s three different positions on the neck. Then we will switch to learning lines over the cycle of 4ths, accompanied with metronome, of course. We will play four different lines with four different grooves and conclude by deconstructing the lines, where we will use diminished scale, extended arpeggios, and chromatic notes.
With this Masterclass you will also receive complementary music sheets.
